Time to say goodbye...with gratitude
— Claudia

Time to say goodbye….

As the majority of you already know I recently have listed my house for sale. This means I won’t be working in Lethbridge once it will be sold.

I cannot thank you enough for supporting my practice for all of these past years since I left Italy; we went together through so many changes and uncertain times like during the Covid-19 pandemic.

It has been such a pleasure to work with you and I will truly miss you! If you like to stay in touch with me, just subscribe to my email list and I will keep you updated on my future endeavours.

As I am going to relocate in Calgary, if you would like to see me again I would be more than happy to keep helping you and if there are things that you would like addressed before I leave, please let me know. I will do my best to make the transition as easy as possible.

I wish you all the best of the best!

Claudia

EFFECTIVE JANUARY 18, 2021

On January 7, Premier Jason Kenney made the announcement that previously enacted provincial restrictions would remain in place until January 21 or until further notice.
This includes the requirement for all massage therapy treatments within the province of Alberta to be accompanied with a written referral from a regulated health professional.
As such, the TC-CMTA, CMMOTA, CRMTA, MTAA, and NHPC have signed a joint letter to express their opposition to these restrictions and to encourage this government to accept our application to become a regulated health profession under the Health Professions Act.

Please see the joint letter (PDF) that was sent to Premier Kenney, Minister Shandro, and Dr. Deena Hinshaw on January 8, 2021.

Effective Monday, January 18, 2021, some business restrictions will be eased in Alberta. This includes Wellness Services, which will be able to re-open and accept clients by appointment only. When the restrictions are eased on Monday, clients will not need to have referrals or doctor's prescriptions to receive treatments.

Thank you to all of our collective members who took the time to contact their elected officials and express their concerns over these restrictions and to educate their MLAs on our desire to become a regulated profession. Thank you to those that encouraged their clients, professional peers, family, and friends to do the same.

As per the update provided by the Chief Medical Officer of Health, massage therapists are able to resume immediately providing services under the following guidelines:

  1. All clients must have either a written prescription from a Medical Doctor, or a written referral from a regulated health professional ( https://www.alberta.ca/regulated-health-professions.aspx )

    1. An existing written prescription is only valid if issued within the last 12 months.

    2. An existing written referral is only valid if issued within the last 12 months.

    3. A copy of the original written prescription or written referral is acceptable.

    4. The written prescription or written referral must be provided prior to receiving treatment.

    5. A copy of the written prescription or written referral must be kept in the client’s file.

  2. All previous requirements for hygiene standards, PPE, masks, and other barriers issued by the individual associations will still apply until January 4, 2021. A new “Infection Prevention Control Manual for Massage Therapists in Alberta” will come into effect January 4, 2021.

This exemption, which has been provided by the Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH) may be terminated or modified by the CMOH in writing without notice and for any reason as determined by the CMOH.

One of the main requirements in the new “Infection Prevention Control Manual for Massage Therapists in Alberta” document will be the mandatory use of surgical/procedural masks (ASTM Level 1 or higher) by all massage therapists.

It is expected that both the client and the worker wear masks (non-medical masks at a minimum for the client, workers must wear procedural/surgical mask, ASTM Level 1 or higher). If a client has difficulty breathing while face down during treatment their mask may be removed. Once the treatment is complete, or once the client moves to a face-up position, the client should perform hand hygiene and put on a mask.

Businesses are advised to have their clients book appointments online or by phone. Walk-in service is not allowed, all clients must be seen by appointment only. If the person booking the appointment answers yes to any of the COVID-19 waiver questions, then should contact 811 and follow AHS recommendations.

All clients should be encouraged to complete the COVID-19 self screening tool provided by their provincial health authority in the 24 hours leading up to their appointment. Clients must attend appointments alone, unless the client is a minor, in which case a parent or guardian may also attend.

Back to work….

Hi, this is Claudia from The Janas Tree, and I wanted to reach out today to let you know that I am able to reopen to see you in person effect of June 15th. So I am finally looking forward to helping you once again. I put in lots of procedures and policies to help you stay safe.

STANDARD PRACTICE AFTER COVID-19 BAN according to Alberta Health Service

  1. Massage therapists must assess and screen patients for symptoms of COVID-19, you will receive a form to submit electronically at the moment of your registration and again a few hours before your appointment. If you were unable to access the internet I will provide a paper form for you at the time of your appointment or a pre-screening at the phone will be set up. That form will need to be signed at each appointment until further notice from AHS.

  2. Hand hygiene is recognized as the single most important infection prevention and control (IPC) practice to break the chain of transmission of infectious diseases, including respiratory illness such as COVID-19. I will provide hand sanitizer before  and after the treatment, and the use of the washroom in case you prefer to use soap and water.

  3. Effective cleaning and disinfection are essential to avoid the possible spread of COVID-19, which is spread through contact with respiratory droplets or contact with contaminated surfaces. For this reason I set up my room with the basic furniture to make cleaning and sanitizing procedures easier. The therapy table is brand new with no scratches easy to clean and covered with an extra vinyl layer. Disposable face cradle covers are available. There is a window in the room that could be open to recycle the air.

  4. My practice schedule will allow a safe break between client's visit, and the area around the therapy room won't be busy. A small size dog (Bichon Frisé) has been living with us for the last three years, a great hypoallergenic dog that won't be allowed to be at the therapy floor during my work hours.

  5. The Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH), Dr. Hinshaw, has recommended that all members of the public should wear a non-medical mask when in public spaces and unable to maintain two-meter physical distance. Massage therapists and clinical staff must be masked at all times while providing patient care.  At this time, for you wearing a mask to a massage therapy appointment is highly recommended by the Alberta Chief Medical Officer. Massage Therapy locations are not required to provide masks for their patients.

  6. Clean clothes must be worn by the health practitioner each day,  no change of clothes during the work hours inside the same location is required.

WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER, AND WE WILL GO THROUGH THIS TOGETHER

Thank you for your continued support during these challenging times. Since the Government of Alberta has direct that non-urgent health care treatments such as physiotherapy, chiropractic, and massage must close, I won’t be able to continue offering my in-person services. Starting today I will join the hundreds of workers affected by the COVID19 and as this situation is ever-evolving I will review this on a continuing basis and keep you informed via email. I have a few options to continue your healing journey that I am offering virtually and free of charge as they are just for the goodwill, the good human connection and because I care of your well being:

1- You may access a private page in my website dedicated to home exercises and healthy tips (send me a message to request the password).

2- Weekdays Telehealth, aka video chat from 10 am to noon (MT). If you prefer to reserve a spot you are welcome to schedule an appointment or send an e-mail.

I encourage you to please find ways during this time to support my practice, easy gestures like follow me on Facebook or  write a Google review of The Janas Tree. I look forward to continuing our healing journey together. In the meantime, please find ways to stay connected and practice self-care during this time.

Feel free to contact me via e-mail or social media, with any questions or concerns.

Cheers,

Claudia

LETTER TO MY CLIENTS AND FRIENDS

Dear friends,

I am writing to you from my house. I decided to do my part staying at home as long as I can. My family is fine, both here and in Italy, I am feeling good, I am not sick, I didn’t travel outside Canada recently. However, I believe that staying at home is one of the most effective measures we can adopt to flatten the curve.

As you probably already know the following recommendations from Physiotherapy Association, Elite Sports Medicine is proceeding with limitations to in-person physic care to address only emergencies. Please call the front desk at 587-425-1235 to get these situations addressed. I encourage you to call to have all your questions answered and explore options to continue care in these hard times, if you are looking for a physiotherapy treatment.

Also, as a RMT my association advise me to follow the government’s recommandation, that said, as a Reiki practitioner I am working at the option of offering distance healing energy in an alternative of in-person visits to help easier pain syndrome, anxiety, and stress-related issues.

This novel virus has to have a huge impact on our lives and could potentially change the way we were used to living for a very long time.

The technology we were blaming in the past as the main cause of keeping people apart and reducing human contact now is working on our favor.

So let’s stay in touch by phone, social media, e-mail, Skype. It’s by staying together that we will succeed! I invite you to encourage me and continue to use my services.

I will try to offer you more information from different valid sources, and I will post them on the page of my website.

Also, you can contact me through Instagram and I will try to answer as soon as possible, and follow my news on my Facebook page as well.

So stay in the loop, and most of all stay healthy!

Claudia
